Groups & Themes

updated

Roughly a third of a stock's move comes from its industry group and another eighth from its sector — close to half the move is the company it keeps. So rank the groups first, then buy the leaders inside the leading ones. Click any row to see its members, ordered by RS.

Part of the universe has stopped updating

2 of 916 group members have no price since before the cutoff, so they are excluded from every ranking, return and breadth figure on this page rather than being mixed in at a stale price. Counted only if priced on or after 2026-10-13. A ranking that compares today's prices against last month's is not a ranking, so the gap is shown instead of absorbed.

How this is calculated

The score: 40% cap-weighted performance (1-month and 3-month), 25% acceleration, 20% breadth, 15% average RS of the members. Each input is converted to a 1–99 percentile across the groups before it is blended, so one axis with a wide spread cannot dominate the rest.

Cap-weighted, capped: returns are weighted by market capitalisation, because that is how institutional money moves — but no single member may exceed 30% of a group's weight, otherwise Semiconductors would simply be a chart of its largest constituent.

Acceleration: the whole table is recomputed as it stood 5 and 21 sessions ago, from the same closes, and the rank change is the difference. Nothing is stored, so the figure is reproducible from the price data rather than from whatever a job happened to persist. Because historical breadth is not reconstructed, the historical rank is performance-only — a deliberate limit, stated rather than hidden.

Windows are calendar dates: every lookback is the last close on or before a calendar offset, never a count of rows. Counting rows looks equivalent and is not: a gap in one series pushes its anchor further into the past, so that name gets measured over a longer window than its peers and its return is silently inflated.

Breadth is suppressed for any group with fewer than three testable members, and a group carrying unpriced members shows that count in its detail panel. A percentage computed over a hole is worse than no percentage.
